Getting there

The walk to Pāmu PurePod is a scenic 420m journey that takes around 5-10 minutes.

As you meander over gently rolling hills, you’ll pass through lush, green farmland, where you might even have the chance to say hello to friendly farm animals along the way. This peaceful stroll sets the tone for the tranquil retreat that awaits you.

For a more comfortable hike, bring a backpack to carry your belongings in.

Secluded Oasis

Nestled in a region brimming with activity Pāmu PurePod is your farmland valley escape to refresh and reflect on the wonders the region delivers and all just 10 minutes from the Rotorua township.  With the National Hatchery a kiwi call over the hill not only can you meander over for a behind the scenes tour but due to all the conservation work over the last few years you will hear the locals ‘singing’ at night. With only the eyes of sheep and cows to break the lush farmland scenery, one might even expect to see a Hobbit hole in the hillside.

Treat yourself to a relaxing soak in the geothermal pools, where the natural mineral waters will leave you feeling refreshed and revitalised. For thrill-seekers, go zip-lining through lush canopies, mountain biking on world-class trails, or racing down a luge track.

Dive into Rotorua’s rich cultural heritage by visiting Te Puia, home to the New Zealand Māori Arts and Crafts Institute. Here, you can enjoy a cultural performance that brings Māori stories to life.

Eating and Drinking

You can choose to bring your own supplies or pre-order a delicious breakfast and dinner hamper when you book your stay.

The hamper is packed with fresh, locally sourced ingredients, many from nearby farms or the Agrodome itself. Start your evening with Over the Moon cheeses, Agrodome farm relishes, cured meats and  crackers. For the main course, enjoy a chef’s selection of either lamb or fishcakes, ready to be cooked on the gas cooktop or BBQ, accompanied by a fresh seasonal salad and a sweet treat to finish. Breakfast is granola. Vegetarian and gluten-free options are available on request.

We suggest bringing your favourite beverages to enjoy on the deck while you take in the stunning surroundings.

How long is the walk from the carpark to the Pāmu PurePod?

The walk to Pāmu PurePod is approximately 420m and takes you over the gently rolling hills of this lush and verdant farmland for around 5-10 minutes.

Once at your PurePod home let the day melt away into the peacefulness of your surroundings.

To make your stroll as enjoyable as possible, we recommend bringing a small backpack to carry your essentials. Take your time, enjoy the fresh country air, and get ready for the serene escape that awaits at Pāmu PurePod.

Please ensure you have suitable walking shoes and a backpack or small carry bag is best. This track is not suitable for large suitcases or wheelie bags.

What are the cooking facilities, do we have to bring our own food?

Each PurePod has a gas cooktop, a small fridge, and all the cookware, plates, and cutlery you need. You’re welcome to bring your own food, or you can pre-order a delicious locally sourced dinner and breakfast hamper.

How private is Pāmu PurePod?

Totally private! Each PurePod is carefully placed to ensure you’re completely private, with no unwanted interruptions! You can truly relax and immerse yourself in nature without worrying about being seen.

Does it have a flush toilet & hot shower?

Absolutely! Each PurePod has a fully plumbed piping hot shower and a flush toilet. Everything is designed to be eco-friendly while still giving you a comfortable experience.

Can we bring our dog?

We love dogs, but unfortunately, PurePods are not pet-friendly and Pāmu PurePod is located on a working farm. This helps us protect stock and the surrounding wildlife and keep the experience pristine for future guests.

Are there 240Volt power points available if it is solar powered?

There are no standard 240V power plugs due to the off grid nature of the PurePod as these require a high level of power. However, if your device is USB chargeable there is one of these available on the control panel above the kitchen sink.

Do you cater for dietary requirements?

Yes! You can select dietary options when booking, or add details in the notes section if yours isn’t listed. Some special requests may have a small extra charge due to our remote locations. Please note that changes within 3 days are not possible.

What should I bring?

Pack for comfort and adventure! Bring cosy layers, sturdy shoes, and a waterproof jacket. NZ weather can be unpredictable. Don’t forget any personal essentials, plus a good book, your knitting, painting supplies, or your favourite card games. And of course, bring your favourite beverage to sip while soaking in the views!

Is it too cold or hot with all that glass?

Not at all! The PurePod is designed with comfort in mind. The glass is double-glazed and insulated, and there’s both heating and ways to cool to keep the temperature just right, no matter the season.

Is there mobile reception at Pāmu PurePod?

There is some mobile reception from Pāmu PurePod but it does depend on the weather and your cellular provider.

What can I do if the date I need is booked out?

We understand you might need a specific date to celebrate a special occasion. If this date if booked out, please get in contact and we can put you on a waitlist or choose another location as we have a number nationwide.

How does check-in work?

There’s no reception—just pure freedom!

At time of booking you will be sent detailed instructions how you can discover and access your PurePod, you will need these.

Before your stay, we’ll email you to confirm your arrival time and vehicle details so the landowner knows when to expect you. That’s it—you’re all set!

Do I need a 4WD to get there?

Some locations benefit from a 4WD depending on the season, but if you don’t have one, we’ll provide alternative driving instructions. Most sites are accessible with an AWD, as the roads are gravel. If you are new to driving on gravel roads just take it slow and follow the wheel marks, avoid rapid acceleration.

Can I bring a third guest / children?

No, sorry! PurePods are designed for two guests only. For safety reasons, we can’t allow a third person to stay, as it would block the exits.

How does check-out work?

Super easy!  Just leave by 12pm, and our team will take care of the rest. No need to check out anywhere, just head off when you’re ready.

Are all prices on the website in NZD?

Yes, all rates listed on the PurePods website are in New Zealand Dollars (NZD). You may see other currencies on other websites and booking platforms so it pays to check which currency they are referring to.

Can I change our food hamper?

All changes including any dietary requests must be made 3 days before arrival.

Can I call someone if there is an emergency?

Each PurePod has communication facilities for emergencies. Instructions are available in each PurePod to ensure you can explain your location. Each PurePod also has a personal location beacon for added safety.

Is our luggage safe to leave in the car?

Yes, all PurePods are on private property and it is safe to leave your larger luggage in your vehicle in the designated car park. Just take a small backpack with you.

What if I have a question and need to contact someone?

We have an on-call phone to help you with any issues you may encounter during your stay which is manned 7am – 9pm.

If you have an emergency such as a medical event, fire or other natural disaster we have a personal locator beacon and a direct line to the emergency services.

How do I access Matū PurePod

Make sure you have the Welcome Guide you were emailed at time of booking, this contains all the driving directions, gate codes and lock codes you need, make sure you download it before you arrive as phone reception can be limited.

Kiwi Hatchery

The National Kiwi Hatchery is walking distance from the PurePod. Join one of their experiences and take an immersive journey where you’ll learn about Kiwi, their native environment and what makes them truly iconic the world over.  For an authentic New Zealand farm experience, visit Agrodome, where you can meet friendly farm animals, watch a live sheep shearing show, and even try your hand at feeding baby lambs.

Walking tracks and mountain biking

Set aside some time to explore the wonderful activities on offer, such as strolling the Redwood forest, Whakarewarewa ForestThe forest is most well known for the network of superb mountain biking and walking tracks and for the magnificent stand of Californian Coast Redwoods.

Geothermal pools

Another great option is to soak in the geothermal pools. Visitors have been flocking to Rotorua’s thermal waters since the mid-19th century to bathe in the hot pools along the edge of Lake Rotorua. The geothermally heated water was hailed for its healing properties and touted as a cure for ailments such as arthritis and rheumatism. There are many ways to experience the hot pools in Rotorua, visit here for more information.

Māori experience

Rotorua is widely considered the best place for travellers to book a Māori experience. If you’re looking for a cultural Māori experience in Rotorua, this site gives a good overview on the options and prices.
