10 Essentials to put on your PurePods packing list

Monday, August 11th, 2025

You’ve booked an overnight stay in one of our luxurious glass eco-cabin. Now it’s time to start thinking about what to take.

Comfortable backpack

Our first tip is to make sure you pack everything into a comfortable backpack.  Each PurePod experience includes a 10 -15 minute walk from a secure carpark and is not suitable for suitcases. The walk from your car sets the tone for your private overnight escape and passes through beautiful native bushes, farmland or rock formations. At the end of the walk, you’ll find your PurePod cabin standing proudly in a stunning and secluded location.

While you won’t need to bring equipment to set up your shelter and snuggle in for the night like you do when camping, you do need to pack a bit differently than you would if you were spending a weekend in a hotel in the city, less is more!

Clothing

Our PurePods are warm and cosy, but remember to pack layers. Layers are a great way to prepare for a variety of weather conditions. If you decide to venture out of the PurePod and stargaze from the deck, then layer up your clothing, and take advantage of the hot water bottles and picnic blankets provided.

Walking Shoes

Each of our PurePods is surrounded by beautiful walks, so pack your walking shoes not just for the walk in but to explore nature. Of course, if such exploration is not quite what you desire, feel free to stretch out on the deck or in the shade nearby and enjoy a complete absence of people, traffic – even your cellphone will likely have no signal, depending on the PurePod location you have chosen.

Favourite Activity

Staying at a PurePod is all about slowing down, disconnecting from a busy life, reconnecting with each other, and having time to catch up on your favourite activity. So bring your favourite book, art project (knitting, scrapbook), yoga mat, or hula hoop. Each of our PurePods also offers an assortment of games, local reference books, and an uninterrupted skyscape like no other for stargazing.

Food

If you decide to book a food hamper; a delicious dinner & breakfast food package will be waiting for you at the PurePod – select this option when you make your reservation. Or you can bring your own food to create a special feast. The PurePod has a small fridge and a gas hob in the kitchen and an outdoor barbeque, plus the kitchen is stocked with pots and pans, plates, cutlery, wine glasses, tea, coffee, milk and cooking oil.

Camera

Make sure you take a charged camera to capture the experience. We love receiving guest photos, so send us the snaps you’re most proud of.

Favourite Tipple

This is an important one! Pack your favourite beverage to enjoy on your private deck. Relax and take in the surroundings, bird song, and picture-perfect views.

Music

Remember to load your favourite tunes onto your device. There’s a UE Boom speaker at the PurePod, plus two USB charging points so in between listening to the birds singing in the nearby trees, you can dance the night away while no one’s watching.

Medication

All our PurePods have basic first aid kits, but make sure you remember any additional medication.

Toiletries

No need to pack towels or most toiletries, as the PurePod is stocked with super crisp and cosy bed linen, towels, face cloths, hand towels, along with shampoo, conditioner, bodywash and handwash. And, don’t pack your hairdryer as there are no power outlets, other than the USB chargers, as the PurePods use solar power and a power-hungry hairdryer will deplete the batteries!

Fall in love with uninterrupted views, nature, and beautiful Aotearoa. We look forward to hosting you!

Celebrating Matariki

Thursday, June 20th, 2024

Matariki, the Māori New Year, is a time of reflection, celebration, and renewal marked by the rising of the Matariki star cluster. The three key principles for Matariki are:

Matariki Hunga Nui, Remembrance: Honouring those we have lost since the last rising of Matariki.

Matariki Ahunga Nui, Celebrating the Present: Gathering together to give thanks for what we have.

Matariki Manako Nui, Looking to the Future: Looking forward to the promise of a new year.

In 2024, various regions across New Zealand will host unique events and activities, offering a rich cultural experience. Check out this guide to find out more about the Matariki celebrations throughout Aotearoa.

For our guests staying at PurePods during Matariki, the best time to see the constellation is early morning, just before dawn. You don’t even have to get out of bed; simply open your eyes and look through the glass roof to take in the majestic skies.

What to Look For

Nine of the brightest stars nearest to Earth are visible with the naked eye. Sit back and take it all in, or have your telescope handy to explore the hundreds of stars that make up the constellation.

How to Find Them

  1. Look to the northeast horizon before sunrise.
  2. Search for the distinct line of stars that forms Tautoru, or Orion’s belt.
  3. Keep moving your gaze north of these three stars until you see a cluster of tiny stars that are roughly as wide as Tautoru is long.

Click here for a short video or a fuller explanation thanks to Te Wānanga o Aotearoa .

Whether you’re stargazing in Stewart Island, enjoying a lantern parade in Cromwell, participating in a hāngī dinner, or marvelling at the stars from the comfort of one of our PurePods, there’s something for everyone to enjoy during this special time of year. Embrace the spirit of Matariki and create unforgettable memories at these festive celebrations.

The Joyful Benefits of Gifting Experiences

In a world cluttered with material possessions, the trend of gifting experiences has gained momentum, offering a unique and memorable alternative to traditional gifts. Below we explore the benefits of gifting experiences, with a special focus on the unfiltered, uninterrupted and unforgettable PurePod experience.

Memories Over Materials

One of the advantages of gifting experiences is the creation of lasting memories. Unlike material gifts that may lose their novelty over time, experiences become cherished moments. Each PurePod, nestled in pristine natural environments, offers an unparalleled opportunity to connect with nature and each other.

Wellness and Relaxation

Modern life can be hectic, and the gift of relaxation is often more valuable than a tangible item. PurePods, situated in serene and secluded locations, offer an ideal escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The recipient can unwind, rejuvenate, and bask in the tranquillity of nature, promoting mental and physical well-being.

Reduced Environmental Impact

In an era where sustainability is a growing concern, experiential gifts often leave a smaller environmental footprint compared to physical items. At PurePods, we align with this eco-friendly mindset by being off grid and integrating sustainable practices into our design and operations. Gifting a PurePods experience not only provides joy to the recipient but also supports a commitment to responsible tourism.

Quality Time

Experiences, especially those shared, strengthen relationships and foster a sense of connection. Gifting a PurePods experience encourages the recipient to spend quality time with loved ones, away from the distractions of technology and daily responsibilities. It’s an opportunity to bond and create shared memories that enhance relationships.

Personalization and Thoughtfulness

Experiential gifts showcase thoughtfulness and consideration for the recipient’s interests. PurePods, with their diverse locations and unique architectural designs, allow for a personalised touch. Whether it’s a romantic getaway, celebrating or creating a special event or a solo retreat, PurePods offers a range of locations to suit.

Cultivating a Sense of Adventure

A PurePods experience opens the door to adventure and exploration. With secret directions provided on booking the journey begins. Once securely parked a short nature walk continues the story until the PurePod is revealed. Surrounded by nature’s wonders, the recipient can embark on walking or biking trails, stargazing escapades, or simply enjoy the breathtaking landscapes. The gift of adventure fosters a spirit of curiosity and discovery, creating a sense of fulfilment and joy.

In a world inundated with material possessions, the gift of an experience stands out as a beacon of thoughtful and meaningful generosity. So, this season, consider unwrapping memories and gifting the extraordinary – gift the PurePods experience.
